Hi! My name is Luke and this is a blog about my family and I: parenting, friends, weekend trips, and some challenging things we navigate as well.
This blog is an archive for my own memories: “These are the good years” I often say. Some day things will change, but for now, things are pretty good, and I keep this blog as a memory of that.
Marriage is great, and being a dad is funny and hard, that’s why the tag for this blog is “proud supporters of fun and failures”, because if you can’t laugh at yourself, what’s the point?

Happy Birthday Mercy!
Our sweet girl turned two this weekend. Taylor likes to make it fun for the girls when they wake up by decorating their rooms and surprising them- so here we are waking up the birthday girl on Saturday morning: It was a team effort: though there aren’t any pictures of it, Ted helped out by…

Weekend at Cicis, Big Love, and dirty desks
The first year of our marriage, Taylor and I lived in a big college house in Virginia that was a mix of graduate students/young professionals. Taylor lived in the house the year before, and rent would be dirt-cheap (to match our income at the time), for the complete basement of the house- with its own…

Lumberjacks, lazy afternoon, let’s go app!
There is this pile of wood that has been sitting in the back of our yard since we moved in. One of our requests when buying the house was to remove this very large, dead tree that was in the back of our property, but the seller’s response was that the tree could be chopped…

Second grade, sweet Sadie, and seclusion
Rosie is off to second grade! Summer was great in so many ways- we really had fun. However, I love routine (I never thought I would say that?), and getting Rosie back to school with our morning walk to school has been wonderful. She is at a little elementary school just a few blocks away,…

Weddings and well-wishers
Scott (Jonathan) Phillips finally got married, and Taylor and I were so excited to celebrate his big day. The wedding was in the middle of August, so we also decided to turn it into an extra anniversary trip, and stay an extra day in Boston on Sunday night after the wedding. The wedding Taylor and…

Amusement parks and anniversaries
Taylor and I took Rosie to Carowinds this week. This trip was a flying success; thanks Taylor for the awesome idea. We surprised Rosie, and left Mercy behind with Grandma Zippy and Papa Pack (Thanks again for the help!), and had a whole day to have fun. Taylor reached out to her cousin who lived…

Seventy, sanity, and staying home
Dad is a septuagenarian Dad, congrats! We have some fun memories, and often, they still come up in my dreams. Yes, I even had dreams about Merriewold this week. Work took you to Greensboro a long time ago. You had no idea that it would turn into an awesome home for me and my brothers…

A blog about nothing
A lot is happening. But nothing is really going on. No vacations this week…nothing spectacular, but I think it’s pretty awesome. Just a fun week at home with my girls. Rosie had a sleepover with her best friend Sydney, who lives 2 blocks away. We spend 5 days a week at our neighborhood pool. Taylor…

Beach week 2022, and breakdowns
Beach week has come and gone. This year was so much fun. Though Taylor and I got off to a rocky start with a disagreement about how to install the larger carseat for Mercy (turns out I was right!) the trip ended up being great. Our small family had great attitudes, and really enjoyed our…

Benjamin Franklin, cheer camp, and summertime shenanigans
Rumor has it Last week, Rosie and I went to the public library. It was fun- they had a great scavenger hunt to find the sea creatures hidden around the library, and Rosie is exceptionally observant. She nailed the scavenger hunt. When it came to getting a book, her teacher recommended a few items. It…

Flashback: Skiing back in February
(The good parts) Something was skipped back in February, and I wanted to take a minute to go back and share about our trip to Colorado. Why Colorado? Last year (in 2021) for Rosies delayed birthday gift, her and I went on a day- trip to go skiing in the mountains of North Carolina, and…

Myrtle Beach
Every year we are lucky enough to have a family beach trip with Taylor’s family at Ocean Isle beach in North Carolina. It is an awesome week, and the family has grown so much that this year we will need two houses for the very first time. This year, we decided to include our own…
