Birthday Girl!

Would you rather have a party with lots of friends, or do something special with just one person?
This is a hard question to answer as a grown up, and a hard question to answer for a kid. For mercy this year, the question was whether to have a birthday party with all her friends, or go to Carowinds for the day. She thought for quite a bit, and decided to do Carowinds with her cousin, and it was definitely the right choice.

This particular picture, Mercy looks evil like the pumpkin does.

According to Tay, the day was awesome. I say “according to Tay” because it was just a girls trip for the day: Rosie and I stayed home and did the normal routine, while Taylor, her mom, Mallory, and Everly lived their best life:

That smile couldnt have been bigger, the whole day was a raging success. The parked was decked out with some of the Halloween gear, but luckily those psycho clowns weren’t out and roaming yet. I think they come out at night during this season, and that would have changed the kind of day they had.

Thats not all, no. Birthdays go big in our house, and Taylor really puts in some work to make Mercy and Rosie feel honored on their birthdays.

Carowinds was the weekend before her birthday, and when I asked Mercy what she wanted for breakfast on her actual birthday, the answer was no surprise:

Who is the person on the right? That’s Amy, and she is living with us for 9 months this year as she is part of the Greensboro Fellows program. Amy is from Maine, and recently graduated from Chapel Hill, and has been a delight with our family so far. She is working at a school here in the area, and busy with the Fellows most nights of the week, and hosting a fellow was one of the motivations for moving houses in the first place- we wanted an extra bedroom to be able to host people, and we are thankful to realize that goal.

After school, Mercy got to have a few friends over to play at our house in lieu of a party. The kids are great, and loud, but one day the house will be quiet again, so just enjoy the noise and bear it for a bit. They had a lot of fun.

Was it over? Oh no. On the same day (her actual birthday), we had the family come for dinner and enjoyed something simple: pizza and wings with even more cousins:

While we are here, let’s re-visit some of the pics from Mercy’s first birthday:

Babies dont keep for long! Taylor, you are a great mom.
